Community-engaged Learning in Teacher Education: A STEM Empowerment Community Project for Underprivileged Children

Project Supervisor (2024-2025). This community-engaged learning project equips undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education (specializing in mathematics education) with knowledge and skills to implement an inclusive computational thinking (CT) education approach for youth in underprivileged communities. It will expand undergraduate students’ horizon and experience with fostering computational participation, while enhancing their own programming skills and subject knowledge. Moreover, it aims to develop and refine a set of culturally, linguistically, and community-relevant education practices in Hong Kong through experiential learning to ensure that public education better meets the needs of diverse student population. Overall, the project will implement an inclusive CT education approach through student and pre-service teacher empowerment in a community-based learning setting.
